1 Values are means of three replicates + SD. Fatty acids present at less than 1% of the total are not shown.
2 Means in rows followed by an asterisk (*) are significantly different (P < 0.10) using a paired t-test.
3 Fatty acids are designated using the formula xy (n­z), where x = the number of carbons in the chain, y = the number of double bonds, and z = the carbon number where the first double bond from the methyl end (n) of the fatty acid is located.
4 The 20- and 22-carbon fatty acids with 4 or more double bonds are known to be important for reproduction in many fishes.
