The Habitat Conservation Division (HCD) of the Northeast Regional Office (NERO) strives to protect, conserve and restore habitats of our living marine resources, thereby ensuring they have healthy habitats to sustain their populations well into the future. The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to HCD in the environmental review of federal actions. HCD has consultation activities as a core element in its program. HCD has consultation responsibilities under the essential fish habitat (EFH) provisions of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA) as well as the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (FWCA). Consultation is initiated by an adverse effect to habitat, and is based on preparation of an assessment by the federal agencies and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) issued conservation recommendations. To qualify, candidate must have a degree in biological sciences, marine biology, fisheries, natural resources management, or related disciplines. Applicant should have a minimum of 1 year of work experience that demonstrates the ability to conserve or manage fisheries resources and habitats. Applicant should have the ability to evaluate impacts of human activities on marine resources and provide recommendations to avoid and minimize those impacts. Application deadline is not specified.
