The Ramsar Secretariat welcomes applications for the position of Intern/Assistant Advisor for the Africa region, a 12-month posting (possibly extendable up to 18 months) in the Ramsar Secretariat in Switzerland to begin in mid-January 2010. This is an opportunity for young graduates to become acquainted with the workings of an intergovernmental treaty dealing with the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. Responsibilities will include: evaluating data sheets; evaluating/assessing project proposals; and dealing with the conservation and sustainable use issues of individual wetland sites. Candidate must have a university degree (preferably a post-graduate qualification) in a subject relevant to wetland conservation and sustainable use, such as, biology, hydrology, marine sciences, natural resources management, land use planning, geography or anthropology/sociology. Candidate must also be an African national and have lived the majority of his/her life in that region. Application deadline is September 30, 2009.
